Volumes of critical bubbles from the nucleation theorem.

چکیده
A corollary of the nucleation theorem due to Kashchiev [Nucleation: Basic Theory with Applications (Butterworth-Heinemann, Oxford, 2000)] allows the volume V(*) of a critical bubble to be determined from nucleation rate measurements. The original derivation was limited to one-component, ideal gas bubbles with a vapor density much smaller than that of the ambient liquid. Here, an exact result is found for multicomponent, nonideal gas bubbles. Provided a weak density inequality holds, this result reduces to Kashchiev's simple form which thus has a much broader range of applicability than originally expected. Limited applications to droplets are also mentioned, and the utility of the p(T,x) form of the nucleation theorem as a sum rule is noted.

Inhomogeneous nucleation in quark hadron phase transition
The effect of subcritical hadron bubbles on a first-order quark-hadron phase transition is studied. These subcritical hadron bubbles created due to thermal fluctuations introduce a finite amount of phase mixing (quark phase mixed with hadron phase) even at and above the critical temperature. For sufficiently strong transitions, as is expected to be the case for the quark-hadron transition, we s...

متن کاملDirect Simulations of Homogeneous Bubble Nucleation: Agreement with CNT and no Local Hot Spots
We present results from direct, large-scale molecular dynamics simulations of homogeneous bubble (liquid-to-vapor) nucleation. The simulations contain half a billion Lennard-Jones atoms and cover up to 56 million time steps. The unprecedented size of the simulated volumes allows us to resolve the nucleation and growth of many bubbles per run in simple direct micro-canonical simulations while th...
متن کاملBubble evolution and properties in homogeneous nucleation simulations.
We analyze the properties of naturally formed nanobubbles in Lennard-Jones molecular dynamics simulations of liquid-to-vapor nucleation in the boiling and the cavitation regimes. The large computational volumes provide a realistic environment at unchanging average temperature and liquid pressure, which allows us to accurately measure properties of bubbles from their inception as stable, critica...
متن کاملHeterogeneous crystal nucleation on bubbles in silicate melt
Experiments reported herein document heterogeneous crystal nucleation on bubbles in supercooled lithium disilicate melt. Crystalline lithium disilicate (Li2Si2O5) nucleated and grew on small bubbles (;1 mm) with a one-to-one correspondence between the number of bubbles and crystals (ranging from ,102 to ;105 bubbles/mm3). Crystals grew on large bubbles (.100 mm) only in samples fused in N2, sug...
